Groups align to register recovering persons to vote

September 07, 2018

Two nonprofits are joining forces to encourage persons in recovery to register to vote.

The Voices Project, founded by American Fix author Ryan Hampton, is teaming with When We All Vote, an organization whose leaders include former First Lady Michelle Obama and a number of entertainment and sports figures, to establish the Recovery Voices Vote platform. The campaign will be involved in an effort to register thousands of individuals in person at the Sept. 29 Recovery Fest music festival in Pawtucket, R.I., an event to be headlined by Macklemore.

“Recovery voters are key to the upcoming elections,” reads a news release from the participating organizations. “The best way to involve people in recovery in the national conversation about addiction is to encourage them to use their voices in the voting booth.”
